About Yiruma

Yiruma (born February 15, 1978; Seoul, Korea) is a South Korean composer. Married to former Miss Korea, Son Hye-im.

Yiruma began playing piano at the age of 5, at 11 he went to England, where he studied at the Purcell School of Music for the musically gifted. Yiruma entered the Royal College, where he studied with the outstanding contemporary musician Harrison Bertvistl. During his studies at the Royal College, his musical talent was noticed, and soon his first album of classical music under the label DECCA was released.

In January 2002, Yiruma made history as the first Korean musician to perform at the famous MIDEM music festival in Cannes, France. SinceYiruma (born February 15, 1978; Seoul, Korea) is a South Korean composer. Married to former Miss Korea, Son Hye-im.

In 2004, Yiruma made his debut on the Japanese stage with music, which he wrote for Fuji television miniseries <Tokyowankei>. The best of the collected works were released with the support of Universal Music Japan in October, accompanying solo performances in the famous Tokyo Orchard Hall and Kawaguchi Lilia Hall. These performances demonstrated to the public the talent that made him number one among Korean “new-age” artists, and gave the composer a standing ovation and praise throughout Japan.

The love of Koreans Yiruma earned after composing and performing a musical theme for the popular dramatic series “Winter Sonata”. He quickly gained popularity and became the advertising face of Korea Telecom’s KT icom G-cube and Yamaha Korea.

As the “new-age” top artist, Yiruma in 2003 presented the public a new album “From the yellow room” which received 30,000 pre-orders, and in 2004 the album “Nocturnal lights … they scatter”, which debuted as number one in Korean pop charts . In the winter of 2004, Yiruma successfully completed the year with a phenomenal 23-stop concert tour in Korea (2004 Drama Concert).

In April 2005, Yiruma recorded the album “Destiny of Love”, which included themes from <Tokyowankei> and a new piano solo.

Korean love Yiruma earned writing and playing musical themes for popular TV series, including the series Winter Sonata and its continuation Spring Waltz. In 2006, the musician became the advertising face of Korea Telecom’s KT icom G-cube and Yamaha Korea. In the same year, he renounced his British citizenship in order to be able to serve in the armed forces of the Republic of Korea.

At the end of the service in 2008, the musician resumed performances, but in September 2010 he broke the contract with the record company Stomp Music and signed a contract with Sony Music Entertainment Korea. Stomp Music sued the artist and litigation for the rights to his works continued until the end of 2011, so Yiruma did not record new works during this time. In 2012, a new studio album.
